Here We Are!

It has been a long few days! So much going on here. Most of our energy has been spent on baby sitting and traveling to Wichita Falls to pick up James from his summer vacation. We are now a full house, minus Dad. This was Gabby’s first road trip. She did really well. We only added an extra 30 minutes to our trip’s normal time. She must love being on the open road, even if that road leads to Wichita Falls. True to her nature, Gabby loved being around new people and was very calm and slept very well. It was not until we got home that she erupted like Mount Vesuvius! I can hardly wait for her teen years, she says sarcastically.

The kids are trying to make the most of their last week of freedom and I am trying to keep up with the house, take the kids shopping and to their intended destinations, and answer Gabby’s non stop summoning. All this madness and it will not stop raining, which makes us feel a little cabin feverish.

Here is a slide show of all of us during the trip. We made it in for my grandma’s 77th birthday celebration with some of our family. Her birthday is the same day as mine. However, she is respectfully older so it was all about her! We also had time to visit with my friends,Linda and Angie, who finally got to see the baby!
Notice in the family pictures all the dark headed people. Gabby never had a chance :-) Also notice how many times Gabby changed hands. She was quite the hit!

I was soooo happy to meet Lil Miss Gabbi. I’m ready for a Labor Day cook out. Sounds like it will be Sunday. They go hunting on Monday. Gabbi has great hair. She is beautiful, just like her mama.

Q.o.U., You are right about the rats. I still have yet to touch mine, but I can’t keep my eyes off of them. I got them a four story rat condo just to enjoy watching them run around. They are very therapeutic for me. Unfortunately they only live on average three years. The next ones I get will hopefully be younger and less inclined to bite me. I love my rats.

Those rats are entertaining, especially at night when you are the guest of someone who has them and have to sleep in the same room as the rats who still have not figured out that no matter how fast they turn on the damn wheel they are still not going anywhere!
Thanks for the compliment Q, I hope to have all my weight gone in less than four weeks! Luckily, not much more to go. Gabby’s hair is quite funky. After all, who wants a baby with boring normal hair? Snooze.
Linda, I am ready for that BBQ!
Ang, tell the Maple Leaf I was joking about him making her cry, it was his Canadian” ness that did it! And between you and Linda E., I became hooked on the Olympics. Thanks for letting us crash at your pad once again.

Hey Omega - it is unusual for rats to bite. And humans are they favourite toys! They adore human company as they are very social animals. Are you sure they are not just trying to nibble you? They do little nibbles to show you that you are accepted as part of the family. How old are they now? How long have they been in your care?
If you want to make them used to you, you should let them out of their condo to run around free in short little periods, each longer and longer. But you have to make sure that the area is completely safe for them (doors closed, windows closed, no cables, nooks and crannies they won’t disappear in to. Just sit very still on the floor, dont try and engage them. They will come and sniff around you - they will approach you, and eventually get used to your presence and it will get easier and easier. Rats are very nervous little creatures so trying to simply pick one up might get you a bite. It is best to coax them on to your hand - flat open palm and let them climb onto your hand. They LOVE cuddles. Oh and hammocks. And they love cucumber!
I can’t believe you have rats! I SOOOO envy you. I badly want some ratties (amongst all the other animals I want as well). I am the Cape Town respresentative of the South African Rat Fan Club. They are such unbelievable (and misunderstood) animals. And so LOVING.
And it is recommended that they get exercise 1 - 2 hours a day out side of their cage. I have a friend who takes her rats out on a leash to a park, and she they follow her in to the garden, and sometimes when the coast is clear, they would follow her home without the leash when they went to the park.

Carolina - did you cut your hair? It looks really pretty shorter :)

Do you get baby hair gel? You could alsways spike Gabby;s hair with hair gel :) How CUTE will that be!! I am telling you - I should be a baby stylist man!

Oh oh oh oh rats really like to play with cats too. Simply take them out of the cage and put the on the floor next to your favorite cat. They will be the best of friends. Guaranteed.

That my dear will depend on the character of the animal. Not everyone can’t play nice like you.

Gabe, what is going on with the calories burned thing showing “NONE”? That doesn’t sound like you. Are you just not updating it or what? I bet you are trying to shock us with a big whopping loss all at once. I’ve been so disappointed in myself this week and Weezer lost another two pounds! Yeah, for her and boo hoo for me. I stayed the same, but it just hurts (mainly because I know I haven’t done all I need to do). I need to whine……………………………………………………………………..Ok, I am better! Have a good weekend!
